LGC hosts iNADO international anti-doping conference

iNADO LGC anti-doping conference

(Fordham, Nov. 18, 2016) International science group LGC has co-hosted a two-day conference on the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) in support of the Institute of National Anti-Doping Organisations (iNADO). The conference was co-ordinated by iNADO for the world’s anti-doping community and took place on Nov. 16-17 at LGC’s facilities in Fordham, one of the LGC sites that conducts analysis for supplements testing and equine doping control.

LGC’s supplements testing programme Informed Sport has a partnership with iNADO and continues to support its efforts to promote clean sport. Conference delegates included representatives from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOs) and international federations such as the IAAF, UEFA and the International Triathlon Union (ITU).

Said Joseph de Pencier, CEO of iNADO: “iNADo is delighted to have had so many ABP practitioners in one room. We achieved our goal of sharing operational challenges and solutions in meeting and building the ABP. “NADOs, international sport organisations, accredited laboratories, independent experts, and of course WADA, have spent two days sharing expertise. To do so at LGC’s facility, a world-leading home of anti-doping science, was perfect to stimulate our exchanges.”

The ABP allows longitudinal scrutiny of an athlete’s blood to examine if there has been any doping activity. It is an important anti-doping tool and the conference was designed to assist anti-doping organisations in their efforts to introduce ABP programmes in their jurisdictions. Said Terence O’Rorke, LGC’s Director of Business Development for Supplements:  “Hosting this prestigious event allowed LGC to share valuable information on its supplements testing services and to continue building relationships within the anti-doping community.

“While LGC is not involved in human sports testing, it is the world leader in sports supplements testing and equine doping control. There has been some discussion around introducing a version of the ABP into equine sports, so it also proved a highly useful conference for LGC scientists.” Informed-Sport will continue to partner iNADO as a sponsor of its annual workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland in March, 2017.
